About us

At Grand, we will always go above and beyond to make you happy.

Meet the Grand Guys

If you have seen our commercials, you have met the Grand Guys. George and Robert are third-generation family owners of Grand Home Furnishings. On camera they play comical versions of themselves, tackling everything from PDR (Poorly Decorated Rooms) to football style mattress challenges. Off camera they are the real leaders of a family company that has been helping customers Find Their Happy for more than 110 years.

The Grand Guys remind customers that shopping for furniture at Grand is never stressful. It is fun, welcoming, and full of possibilities. Whether they are driving an amphibian car, calling penalties on too soft or too firm mattresses, or bringing Frankenstein’s couch to life, their humor highlights what matters most: a great experience, trusted service, and dependable value.

Behind every laugh is a serious commitment. The Grand Guys take customer happiness seriously, backing every purchase with price matching, a 30-day money-back guarantee, and generations of family care.

At Grand, we believe furniture should make your home feel like you. The Grand Guys are here to make sure finding it brings a smile too.

Grand Guys…Finding Your Happy can be fun.

When you come into any of our stores, you’re met at the door with a smile – by someone who is happy to help you find exactly what you want or to let you discover all that’s inside on your own. Either way, they will do everything they can to make sure you’re happy, before and after the sale.

It’s easy to find the perfect room to share with family and friends. Because, at Grand, you’ll find all the latest styles and the area’s best selection. You’ll find it at the guaranteed lowest price and a great deal. It’s all part of our mission to make you happy.

That mission of happiness goes back over 110 years to our beginnings in Roanoke, Virginia. Now, we’re one of the largest furniture and mattress chains in the South, with 18 stores in Virginia, Tennessee and West Virginia.

A Brief History

1911 - A musical prelude

Grand Home Furnishings began as a piano store in 1911 in Roanoke, Virginia uner the name "Grand Piano Company"

1931 - Bring in the furniture

The company added furniture to its line of musical instruments, sheet music, Victrolas and radios.

1945 - New owners

In 1945 George Cartledge, Sr. of Atlanta and two business partners bought Grand Piano Company. The name was changed to Grand Piano and Furniture Company and the music-related merchandise was cut back to pianos while the furniture was expanded.

1953 - The Coca-Cola tradition begins

In 1953 Grand opened a fourth store in Lynchburg, Virginia. For the grand opening weekend George Cartledge felt it would be wonderful to give away a refreshing soft drink as people entered the store.

He secured cases of Coca-Cola in the then 6-1/2 ounce glass bottles. Over 14,000 bottles of Coke were given that weekend and Main Street Lynchburg had to be closed to accommodate the crowds.

1998 - Dropped the piano

Grand ceased piano sales and the company's name was changed to Grand Home Furnishings.

2011 - 100th anniversary celebration

Over 100 years of making customers happy. Grand's strength has always been its people, all of whom share a dedication to excellent customer service which has enabled Grand to grow over the years and become the leading furniture and mattress store in every city and town we serve.
